"ROSE," created in 2018 as part of my ongoing "Lounging Ladies Series." This painting was created with acrylic paints on a 24 x 30" canvas panel.
Rose began as a commissioned piece last year that I grew extremely frustrated with until I picked up a fresh canvas and did my 7th and final re-work -- which the customer finally settled upon. I tossed aside the original canvas with it's awkward image, for several months. Re-inspired, I just completed "Rose," in the image and attitude that I saw her in myself. Commissions are challenging when you have to please yourself and your collector first and foremost. So, this is my final image of "Rose" -- the way I see her, in my typical folk art way.
Signed on the back, and carefully packaged for shipment to you, where you will find it perfect on the wall of your home or office. Thank You so much.
Stacey Torres ART
Born in Jamaica, NY in 1953, Stacey Torres is an African American folk artist and writer living in New Castle, IN. Her primary focus are the female landscape, painted with an abundance of brilliant color with various media, including watercolor, oil pastels, acrylics and ink, inspired by her Caribbean heritage.
As a self-taught artist, Ms. Torres' love of art began at a very early age. In the summer of 2014, she began to paint after a 40 year hiatus. Spending time with her mother, who was in her final stages of Alzheimer's, Stacey began to translate her emotions and journey on canvas, using her art as therapy.
“When the word, “artist” began to appear behind my name, I embraced my lost gift, and painted life as I see it. Art is my exercise in emotional expression; a way of holding onto things I cherish, documenting visions, impressions and dreams. I could write a journal or blog, however, my visions need to be seen. These primitive images of pleasingly imperfect subjects are bits of me; things I'm compelled to celebrate.” Stacey Torres
Ms. Torres' art has been exhibited widely throughout the Midwest and the East Coast, and is curated in private collections across the country, as well as Europe. Her work has also been licensed for episodes of CBS TV's Criminal Minds (Season 10).
