CRIMSON - Flowers in an old clay pot
This delicate piece was done on a vintage natural slate roofing shingle.
NOTE: THESE ARE EXTREMELY FRAGILE, YET LOVELY!
I first prepped the slate tile, leaving it in its beautiful natural state (nicks, chips and cracks and drill holes are included), then I create my portrait with acrylic paint. After allowing the art piece to settle for 24 hours, and then receives 2 to 4 coats of acrylic sealer. Please note, this is NOT to be used as outdoors - even though it is sealed. It is a piece of art for display and decorative purposes only. Moisture resting on the tile can still cause damage to your beautiful painting.
To display, please feel free to stand this up on a shelf or in a sturdy table top easel.

Born in Jamaica, NY in 1953, Stacey Torres is an African American folk artist and writer living in New Castle, IN. Her primary focus are the female landscape, painted with an abundance of brilliant color with various media, including watercolor, oil pastels, acrylics and ink, inspired by her Caribbean heritage.
As a self-taught artist, Ms. Torres' love of art began at a very early age. In the summer of 2014, she began to paint after a 40 year hiatus. Spending time with her mother, who was in her final stages of Alzheimer's, Stacey began to translate her emotions and journey on canvas, using her art as therapy.
“When the word, “artist” began to appear behind my name, I embraced my lost gift, and painted life as I see it. Art is my exercise in emotional expression; a way of holding onto things I cherish; documenting visions, impressions and dreams. I could write a journal or blog, however, my visions need to be seen … At times, I feel messages from beyond, like small glimpses of my past as ancestral folktales emerge with splashes of color. These primitive images of pleasingly imperfect subjects are bits of me; things I'm compelled to celebrate. I suppose I'm guilty of living through my own art by proxy.” Stacey Torres
